The broad bean Bunyards exhibition seeds are a popular reliable variety producing heavy crops of beans with an excellent flavour making them ideal for freezing. Bunyards takes some beating for all round performance. Expect heavy crops of well filled pods and beans of delicious flavour and texture. Excellent fresh or frozen.
Indoor Planting
Sow seeds 2.5cm deep in individual pots of moist compost, be careful not to over water. Place in a warm light location.
Growing On
When the seedings are strong enough to handle and once all chance of frost has passed, transplant direct into growing bed 25cm/9'' in rows apart. Harden off first.
Outdoor Planting
Sow seeds 3cm deep direct in growing bed. For best results sow in double rows with a space of 9'' (25cm) between each row. Keep the soil moist.
The beans will need support as they grow, netting or canes are ideal. Pick the pods regularly to extend the harvest period. For early crops sow October - November. Broad beans require a warm, well cultivated water retaining soil. Plant in a sheltered area and protect with cloches from late frosts.
