The runner bean scarlet emperor has a popular early variety producing heavy crops of large pods with an excellent flavour. They also make an attractive addition to your garden. Runner beans are a good source of Vitamin C, folate and iron, and have a high fibre content.

Indoor Planting
Sow seeds 3cm deep in trays and pots of moist compost and be careful to not over water. Store in a warm place at an approx temperature of 16 degrees.
Growing On
When seedings are strong enough to handle they can be planted out 12'' (30cm) apart in your desired location in May. Harden off first.
Outdoor Planting
Sow seeds 3cm deep direct in growing bed in rows 12'' (30cm) apart with a space of 6'' (15cm) between each seed and keep the soil moist. The beans will need support as they grow, using netting or canes is ideal. Pick the pods regularly to extend their harvest period.
